Des différentes façons de traiter l'information

Grâce à l'excellent Netvibes, j'ai sur une même page les fils RSS du Monde, de Libé et du Figaro.

Image amusante aujourd'hui des dépêches traitées sur l'université d'été du PS à la Rochelle : pour le Figaro ce qui est important, c'est le désistement de Emmanuelli. Pour Le Monde, il faut noter que Ségo a été très applaudie (on reste mesuré); et pour Libé, qui se lâche, elle a carrément été ovationnée...

Bribery in China...

... is in everyone's mind when doing business there. When I meet people interested in doing business with China, this is one of their first concerns and questions: how to fight it ?

My point of view is that it is very hard or even impossible to prevent bribery situations to happen - as explained in China Challenges blog, it is too deeply rooted in Chinese ways & mentality.

So the most important is to know that it can / will happen, be able to identify the risky situations (any one where a few people have the power to release large amount of money), and then have the tools to control and spot any abnormal output from these situations. Statistical reporting can help of course. Communication as well : if A is likely to propose a bribe to B, then it can be useful to communicate with A and minimise the real power of B.
Then it is all a question of tradeoff : if B (the bribee) can feel that it might cost him more to accept the bribe than to reject it, the fight is won. This includes setting specific salary payment schemes, encouraging the reporting of bribery situation, etc...

Référencement - bis (les liens...)

Pour rebondir sur mon précédent post, voici un excellent article (en Anglais) sur les 71 points d'une stratégie de link building réussie.

On y trouve un lien vers une liste d'annuaires de qualité (pas de spams ou de fermes de liens).

De mon expérience l'obtention et la gestion des liens entrants est la partie la plus fastidieuse et difficile du référencement d'un site. D'ailleurs, pas folles, les société de référencement laissent généralement ça au client, arguant que eux "ne sont pas experts sur le métier du client, et donc sauraient moins bien identifier les liens intéressants"...

Référencement : un bon résumé

Un article succint qui ne se perd pas en explications techniques et qui mentionne l'essentiel d'une bonne stratégie de référencement : c'est ici.

En revanche je ne suis pas convaincu de l'utilité des communiqués de presse virtuels : pour avoir déjà utilisé cet outil, j'ai plutôt l'impression que le contenu est noyé dans la multitude des CP publiés (donc pas d'impact direct), et que les liens éventuellement obtenus sont de faible qualité (pagerank nul, etc)...

I was having great expectations from Les Bleus for the coming Basketball World Championship... But we learn now, 1 day before the start of the tournament, that "TP" will fully miss it due to a broken finger...
I hope Boris can do the job - but I would not expect anymore the French to go far in the tournament... Too bad - hope the US team will run the show now, but, uh.... 3 captains in the team ? How does it work ?

It is definitely a strange time for China, balancing between full-speed capitalism and old ages reflexes...

Article de Time sur le rappel par Dell de 4 millions de batteries.... parce que 6 laptops ont explosé à cause d'une batterie défectueuse (dont l'un au cours d'un meeting filmé au Japon - ce qu'on appelle de la mauvaise pub'...).
On peut donc extrapoler empiriquement que si vous avez un portable Dell, vous avez 0,0002% de chances qu'il vous explose sur les genoux...

Weather going crazy ?

Well I am not a scientist, and we read all kind of rubbish about the global warming and other significant ecologic threats on our planet; it is sometimes hard to distinguish proven scientific facts from goofy hypothesis or blockbuster movies scripts...

Last natural disaster in date :

Saomai typhoon in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces of China. Death toll as of today : 100-120 according to French newspaper Le Monde.

Is it me, or we get more and more often news of a typhoon, earthquake, flood, hurricane, ... not mentioning the heat wave who killed about 100 people in France, of the forest fires in Spain & Portugal...

So I can not clearly decide which of the 3 following statements I should believe in :
- mother nature is punishing us harder and harder for our unconscious behaviour (yes, I am thinking american SUVs)
- increasing media coverage and internet bring to our attention more and more disasters that went un-noticed from us before. So the whole "it is getting worse and worse" thing is actually not true.
- there is a clear & unique scientifically established link between human behaviour and the increasing number of natural catastrophies. Well then - please explain it to me, and I will see what I can do.
